🐾 The story behind Sqiigl
Sqiigl is a warm tribute to Squiggles, a beloved family dog whose curiosity, loyalty, and joy inspired the project.
After having two daughters, the founder realized how hard it is to let kids explore the internet freely. Sqiigl was built as a safe place where children can look things up, satisfy their big questions, and learn — without ever being targeted by adult content, invasive trackers, or ads.
Thank you for searching with us.
What is Sqiigl?
Sqiigl is a search and discovery app made specifically for elementary-age kids. Instead of dropping children into the open internet, it gives them a friendly walled garden where they can ask questions, explore topics they love, and follow their curiosity — with safety baked into every step.
Answers are pulled from trusted sources (like Wikipedia and a curated set of the wider web) and rewritten in plain, age-appropriate language. Every result shows where the information came from.
What makes Sqiigl safe?
Safety isn't one feature — it's the whole foundation:
- No ads, everKids see answers, not banners. No commercial targeting, no influencer pushes, no nudges to buy things.
- Two-step filtering on every searchFirst we screen the question — anything off-limits (violence, adult content, self-harm, hate, etc.) is politely declined with a kinder alternative. Then we screen the answer before it's shown.
- No open web browsingKids don't get dropped onto random sites. Results are summarized inside Sqiigl in friendly language, with sources clearly cited.
- Privacy-first by designNo personal profiles required. Favorites and recent searches live in the browser, not tied to an identity. Searches cached on our servers are anonymous and short-lived.
- Parent controlsGrown-ups can block specific topics, set a parent PIN, and get a weekly digest of what their child has been exploring.
What can kids do on Sqiigl?
Sqiigl is more than a search bar. It's a whole discovery playground:
What should parents know?
Sqiigl is a helpful tool — but it isn't a babysitter. We built it to be a calm, trustworthy starting point for online curiosity, and it works best alongside the conversations you already have with your child.
- Supervision still matters. Sqiigl reduces risk, but no filter is perfect. Check in, ask what they're exploring, and use it together when you can.
- Tell us if something slips through. If you spot a result you wouldn't want a child to see, please report it — we tighten the filters fast.
- Built with kid privacy in mind. No accounts required for kids, no behavioral ad tracking, and minimal data collection.
- You're in control. Set a parent PIN, block specific topics, and review the weekly digest below.
